Black Paws Brewing Company

Black Paws Brewing Co. is a brewery in Devils Lake, and its founder traces its start to 2010, when he joined the Muddy River Mashers homebrewing club in Bismarck. In early 2011 he brewed a black cherry stout as his first five-gallon batch, using a minimal kit and what he had learned at club meetings, and it turned out well, as did the batches that followed. He later returned to Devils Lake and opened a law practice, but found he did not enjoy practicing law. When a friend invited him to be the brewer for a planned Bismarck brewery, he ramped up his homebrewing, developed his own recipes and prepared to close his practice. That project kept stalling, and he eventually decided to open a brewery of his own instead. Black Paws describes itself as something big in the Lake Region.
